The Hazelnut Research Project is began by the Arbor Day Foundation in 1996 with plantings of hybrid hazelnuts at Arbor Day Farm by 2000 the project evolve to comprise charter members across the nation doing research on hazelnuts in their own backyard and now its currently expended to nearly 100,000 members recently, to make the most of progress, a Hybrid Hazelnut Consortium was shaped to join the leading hazelnut researchers in the world: Arbor Day Foundation, Oregon State University, Rutgers University, and University of Nebraska.
